Are you looking to maximise your students’ performance opportunities and expose them to an international music experience like no other? Look no further than the popular Bratislava and Summa Cum Laude (SCL) International Youth Music Festivals.

Just a short 70-kilometre commute from one festival to the other combined with deep musical and cultural opportunities in Bratislava and Vienna, students will experience eight times the number of music-making opportunities compared to that in a normal school year and come away with newfound skills and memories to last a lifetime!

Choirs and orchestras from all over the world are welcome to perform in Bratislava in a competitive or non-competitive setting. During the festival, students will be immersed in the rich cultural atmosphere of the city and perform in concert halls, ornate churches, and outdoor settings in the historical centre of the city.

When students aren’t performing, they’ll get to enjoy the stunning sights of the city. Top highlights include the Bratislava Castle, providing breathtaking views of the city and Vienna. Michael’s Gate and the tower is also a popular sightseeing activity and the main entrance to the Old Town. It is the only city gate that has been preserved of medieval fortifications.

The SCL Festival takes place directly after Bratislava Festival and gathers young choirs, bands and orchestras from around the world to perform in Vienna’s two main classical concert venues, the Golden Hall of the Musikverein and the Wiener Konzerthaus, among other prestigious venues. Students can perform in the Competition or non-competitive Celebration and enjoy interactive workshops, educational lectures and additional concerts with local audiences.

With plenty of time available to explore the city in between performances and workshops, students enjoy the city’s historical and musical treasures. Visit the famous Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the main summer residence of the Habsburg monarchs. A hit amongst students is a visit to the homes of great composers like Mozart and Beethoven to see personal belongings, manuscripts, and instruments.

“We performed with 2 other choirs for a local community in an old church. When our choir sang that day, the outcome was incredible. After each piece the crowd applauded with such zeal, the effect was blatantly visible on our small younger group. They received standing ovations and loud boisterous cheering that young people so often express. As a parent, I was brought to tears at seeing such an obvious transformation. An experience that could never have been contrived or duplicated. I know that the effects of that day moved each of our kids in a way that will last a lifetime…” – A proud parent who witnessed this life-changing moment at the SCL Festival during a public performance.
