1 Charter Towers
  • Charter Towers guided visit

    Venus Gold Battery guided tour
    Gain an insight into what life was like in the gold rush of the late nineteenth century. Explore the largest surviving Battery relic in Australia and discover its national cultural significance. One of the highlights is a fascinating film presentation that shows not only the process of extracting gold from ore, but also the story of the Battery's working life and some of its ghosts.

    Miner's Cottage and gold panning activity
    The Miner's Cottage is located within the historic precinct of old Charters Towers. Led by an experienced gold prospector, explore the historical building which was once a worker's cottage with connections to early pioneering families. Leaving the best to last, you'll be shown expert techniques and try panning for gold yourself.

    Free time to explore the Tower’s Hill lookout
    Discover the many stories of Tower Hill as you explore the area and read several storyboards depicting momentous occasions. Stand at the base of the hill where the first gold sighting occurred in 1871 by Aboriginal boy Jupiter, discover 30 different bunkers from World War II including one which has been restored halfway up the hill.

2 Hughenden - Richmond
  • Flinders Discovery Centre - display area visit Explore the extensive exhibition of fossils from all around the world and the growing display of fossils from the surrounding areas - including 'Hughie', a lifesize skeletal replica measuring 7 metres! Discover the unique flora and fauna found in the area and witness the amazing light and sound show which takes you back over 500 million years to the beginning of the formation of Porcupine Gorge.
  • Self-guided Eco Walk on Flinders Experience the diverse bioregions of the Flinders Shire on this 1.5km Eco Walk. Storyboards provide information about the three unique areas - Einasleigh Uplands, Desert Uplands and Mitchell Grass Downs, and highlight the flora and fauna which are most commonly found in each bioregion.
  • Lake Fred Tritton visit Spend the afternoon relaxing by the lake or take a run and a splash in the dinosaur-themed mini water park. Get soaked by the dinosaur head as it dumps water over all those standing below!
3 Richmond
  • Kronosaurus Korner – Marine Fossil Museum guided visit

    Educational tour
    Kronosaurus Korner showcases nearly 1,150 unique fossil specimens from Richmond, Outback Queensland and is home to the skeleton of Australia's most complete dinosaur, putting Richmond on the global dinosaur map. The tour begins with an introductory theatre presentation before resident paleontologist takes you on a journey through the museum. Discover 100-115 million year old remains of extinct marine reptiles, fishes, ammonites and squids that once dominated Australia's ancient inland sea. Finish the tour in the laboratory for a fossil preparation demonstration.

    Supervised Fossil Hunting tour
    Venture out to Richmond's famous fossil hunting sites, located approximately 12km north of town. Paleontologists will arm you with all the tools and knowledge so you can discover, identify and collect your very own 100 million year old fossils!

  • Heritage Trail Walk and Pioneer's Cemetery Explore Richmond, a 19th century Georgian Village rich in convict history and explore many of the village's most important historic sites. Finish the heritage walk at the Pioneer Cemetery, entrenched in a deep history from the days of wool and gold, it gives an insight to the hardships faced by the pioneers of that time.
4 Winton
  • Dinosaur Stampede National Monument guided visit Experience the only known dinosaur stampede on the planet! See over 3,300 dinosaur footprints scattered over the rock face, watch an animated recreation of a dinosaur stampede and a movie presentation that depicts the history of Winton’s trackway discoveries and conservation.
6 Longreach
  • Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame visit & show Bringing to life the rugged landscape of the outback, Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame galleries reveal the incredible and often unknown stories of the everyday people who are at the heart of the outback—our unsung heroes. Gain access to all galleries and enjoy an audio and video guided tour with virtual guide 'Hugh'. Enjoy a live show and see the stories and skills that define what it means to be a stockman. Understand their connection to the land and the livestock they care for.
  • Qantas Founders Museum guided visit Discover historical displays and exhibits as you go back in time to the 1920's in Outback Queensland, following the journey of Qantas from then until now. Explore the Boeing 747 and Super Constellation, discovering everything there is to know about these impressive aircraft.

    Luminescent Longreach is a 23 minute spectacular nighttime light and sound experience that brings the 100-year story of Qantas to life. It weaves an unforgettable narrative through time, a story of the daring spirit of early aviation, of iconic aircraft, wars, distant places and outback innovation, projecting over the mighty Boeing 747.
