Snowsports adventures in the Snowy Mountains

Snowsports adventures in the Snowy Mountains

Kosciuszko National Park is home to Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko which houses four ski resorts, including Perisher Valley and Thredbo. You’ll find the longest ski runs in Australia here as well as uncrowded cross-country skiing trails. With all that space comes a great deal of variety and both resorts provide students with a snow paradise full of new runs to access every single day – and gives endless opportunities for your students to get active, challenge themselves physically and mentally, and to build upon lessons from the classroom.

Perisher

Perisher is the largest ski resort in Australia with 1,245 hectares of skiable terrain spread over four interconnected ski resorts. School groups enjoy the greatest number of lifts and the most reliable snow in Australia when they choose Perisher as their Snowsports destination.

Activity and adventure

Whilst on tour, students will learn from an international team of expert instructors at the Perisher Snowsports School. Whether it’s making turns down wide open groomed runs from the highest lift point in Australia or engaging in optional activities like the thrill of snow tubing or a quieter guided snow-shoe tour, in the winter alpine environment there’s always something exciting to see and do here.

On-mountain activities

For groups with accommodation on the mountain, students can enjoy an alpine experience like no other with Perisher’s Neon Night Skiing and marvel at a spectacular firework display across a stark white alpine backdrop.

Off-mountain activities

The learning continues in the lakefront town of Jindabyne, a popular base for school groups that offers many educational opportunities. Students can learn about the Corroboree Frog Conservation Project in the Kosciusko National Park or learn about biology, aquaculture and recreation on a guided tour of the Gaden Trout Hatchery.

Thredbo

Thredbo has taken out the award for ‘Australia’s Best Snow Resort’ for a third year running and it’s not a surprise why! With a variety of terrain available to suit all levels of ability, plus the wide array of activities and experiences available in the village, Thredbo is the perfect destination for school groups.

Activity and adventure

Students enjoy daily snowsports lessons from some of the best in the business! Beginners can take their first time slides down the gentle slope of Friday Flat, with Snow Runner conveyors to make the learning experience a breeze. Intermediate riders can turn it up at the Cruiser area with plenty of wide, tree-lined trails to explore, and the more advanced students will find endless on and off piste challenges, powder bowls and natural features.

On-mountain activities

The Kids Flare Run is one of Thredbo’s favourite night activities. Snowsports instructors accompany students on board the Easy Does It Chairlift before descending the gentle slopes with their own twinkling, flashing LED flares. Once they reach the bottom, enjoy the firework spectacular as it lights up the sky.

A new exciting addition to Thredbo resort is The Merritts Gondola! It launched this winter and is the only alpine gondola in Australia. Students can enjoy comfy cabins as they ascend the mountain in just 6 minutes to the base of the Cruiser area.

Off-mountain activities

After a day of adventure on mountain, a popular activity for students is an afternoon at Thredbo Leisure Centre. Located just a 5 minute walk from the village centre, students can relax those muscles in the large indoor heated pool, or those with a bit more energy can enjoy the climbing wall or shoot some hoops on the basketball courts.

For groups staying in Jindabyne, you may choose to relax at Jindabyne Indoor Pool instead – another very popular activity!
