How it all started
In 1964, a middle school social studies teacher from Chicago discovered the incredible educational experience of travelling to Washington D.C. with his students. Three years later, inspired by the impactful nature of experiential learning, he transitioned from teaching to establish Lakeland Tours, an educational travel company.
1990s
WorldStrides emerges as the premier accredited organisation in its field, uniting with distinguished partners in student travel, enhancing educational travel experiences for students. Trekset Tours and Group Events were both established as trusted educational travel providers in Australian education and snow tours, both later to be acquired by WorldStrides.
"After 40 years helping Australian students explore the world, I’ve seen firsthand how travel shapes confidence, curiosity, and character. Watching young people grow through these experiences has been the greatest privilege of my career.”
- David Hannan, Sales Manager
2000s
WorldStrides deepens its educational mission to include “a commitment to environmental stewardship” on each program tour.
WorldStrides acquires Trekset Tours, adding richness to the Australian educational and sports portfolio. WorldStrides also acquires Group Events as a means of broadening its reach in the Australian market.
2016–2025
WorldStrides successfully renews its accreditation as an educational institution with AdvancED, earning commendations for its dedication to transforming student learning experiences. The WorldStrides family grows to include Explorica, Envision, TEAN Abroad, and BrightSpark, enhancing the breadth and depth of its educational offerings with experiential learning and career exploration.
