With the excellent news that NT Learning Adventures has increased the school excursion grant (Save & Learn) from $1,000 to $1,500 for groups travelling from 1 July 2022 – 31 May 2023, we’re spotlighting our top picks for attractions and educational programs in the Northern Territory.
Alice Springs Desert Park
Walk in the footsteps of the ancient inhabitants of the Central Australian desert and learn about their lifestyle and culture at the Alice Springs Desert Park. The world-class nature park is a real life lesson in ecology as students explore the desert flora and fauna and wildlife.
Royal Flying Doctors guided tour
See, experience and learn through the wonder of technology as the heroic stories of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) are brought to life. Through the use of holograms and touchscreen portals, students interact with John Flynn, founder of the RFDS, who tells the heroic tales of its birth and growth.
Cultural Immersion Program
Delve into an authentic Aboriginal cultural experience and learn about seasonal bush tucker food and the importance of grinding stones, the types of plants that are used as bush medicine by the Luritja and Pertame (Southern Aranda) people and understand the history and meaning of Aboriginal dot paintings.
Maruku Arts – Bush Medicine Demonstration
Here students will learn how the Anangu people use and produce traditional bush medicine.
Darwin Military Museum
At the Darwin Military Museum, students will be immersed in Australia’s military history and examine items such as WWII vehicles, uniforms and various pieces of weaponry. Throughout the Defense of Darwin experience, students will learn the story of the first WWII enemy attacks on Australian soil through a multimedia display.
